Washington DC, November 30: Jim Belushi, Juno Temple, Justin Timberlake, and Kate Winslet starrer comedic drama Wonder Wheel is a plot set in 1950s Coney Island.
The release date pits it against James Franco starrer Disaster Artist directed by the actor himself. The release calendar looks very dynamic with Disney’s “Coco” releasing the weekend before these films.
Distributed by Amazon Studios, the production house agreed to work with Allen yet again after his last year’s release Café Society. The film surfaced on the theatres and went onto make $43.8 million globally.
A logline for the film says “it’s a larger –than- life characters with themes like infidelity, love and gangsters. This is Kate Winslet’s first time working with Allen. Before Wonder Wheel, she had been tapped for Match Point back in 2005. Later it was found that she had opted out of the script reading sessions because of personal reasons.
Post release, the film will be eligible for Academy Award Nominations. Before this, Allen has been a favourite for all Oscar voters with his Annie Hall, Midnight Paris and Hannah and her Sisters.
As a production house, Amazon Studios is only focusing on original scripts as of now. This is how it is making its presence count in the industry. Last year it distributed Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea which won the Academy Award for Cassey Affleck as best actor. The Salesman directed by Asghar Farhadi, won the Academy award for the best foreign language film.
Wonderstruck, an offbeat drama series by Todd Haynes is also set for release in Netherlands, Thailand, Slovenia and Belgium the coming weekend.
Wonder Wheel, releases this Friday- 1 December, 2017.
