Bodies and body parts recovered from Tapovan Tunnel

The Uttrakhand DGP Mr. Ashok Kumar said one body and one body part is recovered from the Tapovan Tunnel today. Another body was found on the north side of Raini Village today. The body count stands at 60 now. He said 27 body parts have been recovered so far.

Mr. Kumar added, “The rescue operation could go on for longer as a large amount of debris and mud is stocked inside.”

The Uttrakhand flashflood began on the 7th of February 2021. Initially, 10 bodies were pulled out by rescue operation teams, as many as 170 people are found missing. The rescue operation is still continuing. Many NTPC workers were trapped inside as the water and sludge came rushing in.

Early warning systems have been installed by the Uttrakhand police to get an alert as soon as water levels increase.


The Uttrakhand Police tweeted that, “they are still trying to find bodies, and the recovered body samples are sent to DNA sample testing.
