The case of Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter, Honeypreet Insan

Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was arrested for inciting violence in Panchkula, after father’s arrest, near the Punjab Highway after being on a run since August 25.

Honeypreet was finally booked at Sector 5 Police station, Panchkula.

According to sources, she was interrogated at the police station till 3 am in the morning for the charges against her like sedition and rioting after Ram Rahim’s arrest which claimed 33 lives.

 

Who is Honeypreet Insan?

Honeypreet Insan was born as Priyanka Taneja in Fatehabad district of Haryana. She married Vishwas Gupta who introduced her to Gurmeet Ram Rahim. Gurmeet Ram Rahim adopted Honeypreet as his third daughter for proptection from abuse from Vishwas Gupta.

She has been one of the closest aids to Ram Rahim ever since. She went underground after father’s conviction while being wanted for the violence caused on August 25. She was facing a case of sedition for allegedly inciting violence in Haryana after the Dera chief’s conviction.

Where was Honeypreet hiding?

Following Ram Rahim’s arrest  in connection with two rape cases, Honeypreet was absconding for 38 days before finally getting caught. She was named among 43 most-wanted by the Haryana Police. She came out of hiding and gave interviews to several media channels including IndiaToday and News24.

After Ram Rahim was flown from Panchkula to a Rohtak jail, Honeypreet stayed in a guest house in Rohtak on the night of August 25 and at the Dera headquarters the following night.

On August 30, she stayed at a Dera follower’s house in Rajasthan’s Sangaria when police was still looking for her in Hanumangarh. The hide and seek went on for a while when search teams were launched after news of her being spotted in Nepal, Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar and some other locations in Gurgaon.

How was she caught?

She was not. Honeypreet surrendered to Police. After being unable to track her whereabouts, the Delhi HC asked her to surrender saying it was the easiest way out for her after the court dismissed the transit anticipatory bail plea of Honeypreet Insan.

She later appeared in interviews on two TV channels on Tuesday morning.

 

Hours later, she was arrested from Zirakpur-Patiala road in Punjab on Wednesday.

The interrogation and charges against Honeypreet Insan

After she was interrogated, it was discovered that the mastermind of the conspiracy was Honeypreet Insan. She was questioned for four-and-a-half hours on her role in the violence. She has been accused of trying to help him escape and also instigating the rioting.

A court remanded Honeypreet Insan in six-day police custody on Wednesday.

She was questioned at the Panchkula police station. Largely, Honeypreet disclosed details of the places she went to and people she was in touch with during her 38-day long run from the police.

However, the Special Investigating Team (SIT) interrogating Honeypreet found her a tough nut to crack during interrogation, a narco test seems highly likely according to sources.
