The food delivery platform — Swiggy has just announced to bring over 36,000 street food vendors online across 125 cities in the country while collaborating with the Prime Minister’s Street Vendor AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme.
It said that the new initiative follows a successful pilot that the company initiated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in five cities across the country involving 300 street vendors.
Swiggy will be creating a new button where users will be able to access their favourite street foods. The street vendors will be trained and registered with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Chief Operating Officer of Swiggy, Vivek Sundar said that street food is an integral part of the food culture in India. “We thank the ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to give Swiggy the opportunity to do our bit to help them adapt to the new normal and embrace and thrive in the digital economy,” Sundar said.
The SVANidhi has received loan applications from 1.47 lakh street food vendors, of which Swiggy will onboard 36,000 vendors to whom the loan has been disbursed in the first phase.
