Sensex and Nifty loses opening gains, Rupee hits three-week high at 73.15

The 30-share Sensex which started the day with a 350 points jump has fell down 400 points to 33,816.83 (as of 2:07 p.m.). On Tuesday, it closed 287.15 points or 0.84 per cent lower at 33,847.23 after hitting a low of 33,742.75. This is the weakest closing since April 10 last, when it settled at 33,880.25.

The broader NSE Nifty too lost its momentum after starting the day on rising toll. Nifty fell over 100 points to 10,153.30 (as of 2:12 p.m.). It rose over 130 points from yesterday’s closing. Yesterday, it fell below the 10,200 level by dropping 98.45 points, or 0.96 per cent, to end at 10,146.80.

The Indian rupee hit a three-week high in trade today amid falling prices of Brent crude oil and a recovery in the domestic market. The rupee recovered 42 paise to 73.15 level (intra day high) against the US dollar. The currency had opened at 73.18 in trade today against its previous close of 73.57 level on Tuesday.
