Selena Gomez receives treatment after ‘emotional breakdown’

Chennai: Selena Gomez is receiving treatment after an ‘emotional breakdown’ at an East Coast psychiatric facility, according to a news report by TMZ.

Admitted last week because of the ‘emotional downward spiral’ caused by low white blood cell count in the wake of her kidney transplant, Gomez is currently receiving dialectical behavior therapy, the report claimed. Selena has received DBT in the past.

“Selena has dealt with depression for a while and her and the people around her have always kept an eye on how she feels, even more so since her kidney transplant. Selena wasn’t feeling well and went to the hospital, as she does whenever she feels off. After further monitoring it was decided that Selena would seek treatment at a [mental health] facility,” a source was quoted saying to ET.

Gomez’s struggle with mental health is not new. According to news report, the 26-year-old singer went to the hospital twice in the past couple of weeks

Gomez cited debilitating health condition due to the negativity surrounding her on Instagram as the reason to quit the platform on September 23, 2018.

Before leaving social media, Selena did an Instagram Live answering questions from fans and said that depression had consumed her life for 5 years.

“Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror -like an idiot!) Update: taking a social media break. Again,” she captioned a smiling selfie. “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi,” she wrote on her last Instagram post.

She elaborated further during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, revealing that her anxiety and depression are not things she’ll thinks she’ll “ever overcome.”

Earlier this year, Gomez completed a two-week treatment program in New York City for anxiety and depression. She also sought mental health treatment in 2014 and gain in 2016 for her emotional well-being.
