Ms. Gurunath became the first woman to head a state unit of the Indian board in an election with her being the solitary nominee.
According to PTI, she was elected at the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s (TNCA) 87th Annual General Meeting. It was decided at TNCA’s executive meeting on Sunday that the elections would be held on Thursday. Her name was the only one in the list of nominees filed for the position of president. Her election was announced on the floor of the house as per TNCA norms.
The TNCA has been under scrutiny for the past few days thanks to accusations against certain officials, coaches, and players of match fixing in its franchise based Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
Ms. Gurunath is the wife of Gurunath Meiyappan, who is serving a life ban for his involvement in the 2013 spot fixing scandal in 2013 in the Indian Premier League.
