Kolkata, October 29, 2020: Juventus played without Ronaldo as he was tested positive for COVID-19 on October 13. The football enthusiasts have been waiting for a match between the Portuguese and Messi since 2018 now, and would have to wait further for the second group encounter.
Ousmane Dembele, known as the ‘problem child’ of Barcelona started off quite impressive with a goal at the 14th minute, followed by Messi’s penalty goal at the 90+1 minute sealing off Barca at 2-0.
The two teams played quite well giving each other a hard time throughout the game. Alvaro Morata gave Barca a close-range strike as Juventus had the ball in the back of the net right before 30 mintues, but unfortunately the flag had gone up for the offside and the goal was not allowed.
Messi had flashed a shot wide of the left post from the top of the area, and Pedri seeing the close-range had blocked minutes later. Koeman, the coach had brought in a change at the 66th minute, added a youngster Ansu Fati for Dembele.
Juventus lost its last hope when Merih Demiral was sent off after recieving a second yellow card leaving behind only 10 players to his team.
Leonardo Bonucci, the captain of Juventus admitted that the match results are very disappointing and their coach Andrea Pirlo said that the defeat will be used as a lesson and will further help the team grow.
