Rampal: Self-styled godman, 13 others sentenced to life imprisonment in another case

Self-styled god man Rampal, who was found guilty of murder last week by a sessions court in Hisar, Haryana, has been sentenced to life imprisonment along with 13 other of his followers.

Rampal, along with 26 of his followers, were convicted on October 11 in two separate cases of murder and other offences, including wrongful confinement of people at his Satlok Ashram in Hisar.

The cases were filed by two men who alleged that their wives were murdered inside Rampal’s ashram at Barwala village where they were being held captive.

A penalty of Rs 2.05 lakh has also been imposed on each of them.

On  Tuesday, the court had sentenced Rampal and 14 others to life imprisonment in another case, connected to the death of four women and a child, who had died of suffocation and illness during the impasse at his hermitage. Rampal and his aides were convicted under Sections 302 (murder), 343 (wrongful confinement) and 120 B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in this case.
