PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma have advanced to the second round of women’s singles and men’s singles, respectively, in the Hong Kong Open being held in Kowloon on Wednesday.
According to a report by India Today, Sindhu began the match well with a 21-15 win over Jindapol in the first game. Though she was outplayed 13-21 by Jindapol in the second round, Sindhu took the game 21-17 and the match with a stellar performance in the third round.
Sindhu will have to face South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun in the next round. Sindhu leads Sung 8-5 in their head-to-head record but has one win and a loss this year against the Korean.

Sameer Verma beat Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon with a comfortable 21-17, 21-14 in a match that ended in less than 40 minutes.
Sameer will be up against China’s Olympic champion and recently, the French Open winner Chen Long in the second round.
The one time Sameer played Chen Long was back in 2015 and the Indian had lost.

On the other hand, B Sai Praneeth and women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy bowed out of the tournament after opening round losses.
