Every year, the 16th of November is commemorated as National Press Day in India. It was on this day in 1966 that the Press Council of India began it’s supervisory duties. According to the PCI, “this was the day on which the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium”.
