Paris Masters 2018: Nadal pulls out, propels Djokovic to World No.1

Novak Djokovic will be the new World No.1 as Rafael Nadal pulled out of the Paris Masters with an abdominal injury. The Spaniard had also retired from his U.S Open semi-finals against Juan Martin Del Potro in September.

The current World No.1 was advised against playing his match against countryman, Fernando Verdasco. “The last few days I start to feel a little bit the abdominal, especially when I was serving. The doctor says that is recommended to not play, because if I continue the abdominal maybe can break and can be a major thing,” said Nadal.

Meanwhile, Djokovic, who himself is on an injury comeback trail, won his encounter against Portugal’s Jose Sousa 7-5, 6-1. He will be facing Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur next. Another big name, World No.8, Dominic Thiem, downed France’s Gilles Simon, 6-4, 6-2 last night. He will be up against Borna Coric next.
