No vaccination, No report card

In Meghalaya, students who have not taken the measles and rubella vaccine will not be given their annual report card as the government put a directive on this.

“I have asked the District School Education Officer to instruct all the schools not to publish annual examination results of those students not given Measles-Rubella vaccines and apply the same for new admission,” Peter S. Dkhar, the district magistrate of East Khasi Hills said.
Four lakh of the 13 lakh children between nine months and 15 years of age in Meghalaya have been vaccinated for measles and this the east khasi hill district record the lowest vaccination while the jatia hills record the highest upto 65%.

The Khasi Students’ Union and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People’s have shown their opposition to the government’s directive saying that it violates the right of students and demand the revocation of this directive.

The vaccination programe started in september 24 in meghalaya. Alexander Laloo Hek ,the Health and Family Welfare Minister appealed to parents not to be afraid as this was to ensure the childern are safe from measeles and rubella.
