Makers keen to see Priyanka Chopra as PT Usha in her biopic

Priyanka Chopra impressed everyone with her incredible performance as Mary Kom in her biopic. Now, there are talks that PeeCee might star in a movie based on the life and times of legendary athlete PT Usha.

The film is being helmed by Malayalam filmmaker named Revathy S Varmha. When asked about it, she stated to a leading daily, “Priyanka has been interested in the movie from the outset, but in the past two years, she got busy with her Hollywood commitments. Whoever is the actress will need to go through rigorous training and preparations, and will need to keep aside at least a year of their time. Both Priyanka and we are hoping she can find the time.”

Priyanka Chopra’s “Mary Kom,” released in the year 2015  wherein she played the part of the Olympic bronze medalist, M. C Mary Kom was her first biopic movie. In the movie, Priyanka has made all the efforts to look,to be and fight like the boxer.There is no doubt that Priyanka has undergone a rigorous amount of training to achieve the strength and body of a boxer. priyanka looked and worked her part and she was highly appreciated for performance.

 

Revathy says about Usha, “There have been a lot of struggles behind her achievements, and she had to face criticism and rejection at a time when there were no social media to support her.She was the real face of women’s empowerment. I myself have been amazed by what she went through as I learn more about her.We are still in the process of doing the research. Also, music director and singer A R Rahman has been roped in to compose the music for the film.”

The filmmaker also spoke about how Priyanka has always been her first choice. She said, “We are on the lookout for actors to play the roles. Regarding the lead role, Priyanka is our first choice. But we are happy to say that several actors like Sonam Kapoor too have expressed their wish to play the role.”

Chopra has received numerous awards, including a National Film Award and five Filmfare Awards. In 2016, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, and Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Although Chopra initially aspired to study aeronautical engineering or criminal psychology, she accepted offers to join the Indian film industry, which came as a result of her pageant wins, making her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She played the leading lady in the box-office hits Andaaz (2003) and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), and received critical acclaim for her breakout role in the 2004 thriller Aitraaz. In 2006, Chopra established herself as a leading actress of Indian cinema with starring roles in the top-grossing productions Krrish and Don.

Following a brief setback, she garnered success for playing a troubled model in the drama Fashion (2008), which won her the Filmfare and National Film Award for Best Actress. Chopra subsequently gained wider recognition for portraying a range of characters in the films Kaminey (2009), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Barfi! (2012), Mary Kom(2014), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and Bajirao Mastani (2015), as she continued to star in several other successful films. In 2015, she began starring as Alex Parrish on the ABC thriller series Quantico, becoming the first South Asian to headline an American network drama series.

Given her stature the audiance have very high expectations from Priyanka Chopra to do justice to the character of P.T. Usha.

Chopra has several other projects at the various stages of production. She has completed A Kid Like Jake, the film adaptation of Daniel Pearle’s play directed by Silas Howard, and Todd Strauss-Schulson‘s romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic? opposite Liam HemsworthRebel Wilson and Adam DeVineChopra is also producing over a dozen regional films in various languages under her production company. She has also signed Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury to direct a Hindi film starring her for her company.[163] Additionally, she will produce and star as the astronaut Kalpana Chawla in Viacom 18 Motion Pictures‘s untitled biopic.[164][165] In July 2017, it was announced that Chopra is developing a sitcom for ABC based on the life of Madhuri Dixit, and will also serve as an executive producer. She is also slated to star as the lawyer Vanita Gupta in Gordan’s courtroom drama Tulia, an adaptation of a non-fiction book Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption (2005) based on the notorious 1999 racial injustice case that unfolded in the city of the same name.
