Mahindra Electric, the electric division of Mahindra and Mahindra, launched a Mahindra Treo range of electric three-wheelers in India today at the starting price of Rs 1.36 lakh for the Treo Yaari soft top e-rickshaw, while the Treo electric three-wheeler is priced at Rs 2.22 lakh. The Treo electric vehicle (EV) comes powered by a lithium-ion battery pack.
Kelachandra Joseph George, minister of large and medium-sized industry in the cabinet of HD Kumaraswamy, inaugurated the the new vehicle the Mahindra Electric tech manufacturing hub. “Mahindra Electric is India’s first Electric component manufacturing unit, which will apparently generate 25% of its electricity needs with solar panels,” tweeted KJ George.

The zero maintenance lithium ion battery has a lifetime of more than 5 years. This doubles the mean life of previously used lead acid batteries. The Mahindra Treo has a claimed range of 170km per charge (130km typical driving range). The battery charges to full in 3 hours 50 min. The Treo sports a single 5.4kW eletric motor powering its rear wheels, with 30Nm of torque. The Treo has claimed top speed of 45kmph.
