Madhya Pradesh passes new provisions under Love Jihad: imprisonment increased from 5-10 years

The BJP-ruled state government of Madhya Pradesh extended the provisions of imprisonment under ‘Love Jihad’ from five-years to 10 years. The draft that was prepared to amend the Love Jihad law for stronger action action against any Muslim who threatens religious conversion is called the `MP Freedom of Religion Bill-2020. 

 

According to a statement given to the TOI, the extension of prison life under love jihad will ensure that such imprisonment is non bailable. The new provision will become enforcable from Dec 28 after the first state cabinet of the winter session is conducted.

The decision comes days after Yogi Adityanath announced that there will be stricter laws regarding love jihad in the country. His announcement comes amidst the incoming days of the state elections.
