Indian men’s hockey team ends the 41 year drought and bags Olympic bronze.
Indian Men’s hockey team defeated Germany 5-4 on Thursday to win the hockey bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. India last won a silverware in hockey back in 1980 Moscow winter Olympics.
“We would like to dedicate this medal to doctors who have saved so many people’s lives there in India and everywhere in this world. So, we’d like to dedicate this medal to those warriors,” said Manpreet Singh, the captain of the Indian team after the match.
“The last 15 months was so difficult for us also, because we were in Bangalore, we spent too much time there away from the family,” Singh added.
Goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh, who was phenomenal in the knockout stages, called the bronze medal “a rebirth” for Indian hockey.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the men’s hockey team after it won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. He tweeted,”Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian.
