1 lakh compensation will be given to injured also

New Delhi: Railway minister Piyush Goyal announced five lakh compensation for the Howrah Stampede for the deceased and 1 lakh to those who got injured in the stampede at foot over bridge at Santragachi station in Howrah.
Mamata Banerjee who earlier visited the victims at the hospital announced the same amount to the victims.

Atleast 2 person were killed and 17 injured in the stampede. According to the railway ministry spokesperson, Smita Vats, the incident occurred at around 6 pm at the foot-over bridge due to overcrowding.
The incident occurred when passengers were hurriedly trying to cross the foot over bridge between two stations following an announcement of three trains coming simultaneously on two adjacent tracks.
Railway has ordered an inquiry of the Santragachi stampede.
