Chef Payal brings to the city a whole new way to wine and dine
Imagine a beautiful dinner, under a canopy by the ocean, just beside your beach house with fairy lights et all. And you get to propose to the woman you love after a delicious gourmet meal organized just for you. You can rest assured she’ll say yes after such a charming personalized experience.
You can probably arrange for all of it on your own but there’s someone that could help you with the professional gourmet meal part. Chef Payal Rajankar, is one of the only people in the city who offers personalized gourmet meals through “The Gourmet Gig”, a personalized fine-dining experience which is customized to your preferences be it dining or decor.
“I create customized menus and meals for people who would like to entertain in any venue of their choice. We also do live counters, sit-down pre-plated meals. I’m trying to get a bunch tastings to also happen,” says Rajankar.
When asked how it all started for her she says, “My father is very instrumental in putting this idea in my head. He has a catering company and he caters to very large numbers but he realized there’s a gap in the market when people want to do small personalized lunches with just friends and families. There are very few people that will customized the food based on each and every guest.”
Although Rajankar herself hasn’t experienced such a customized meal herself. “I’ve always been at the giving end of making these special personalized meals. I’d love to one day of course,” she says.
Her most memorable experience organizing a fine-dining meal was one she did last month for 20 people. Rajankar says, “It’s a big challenge and I was very nervous. I didn’t sleep for days before that. I went crazy. But at the end of the event, when I went out to ask them if they enjoyed the meal they all stood up and clapped for me. I literally got a standing ovation. I was pleasantly surprised and I had never felt that happy before.” For Rajankar that makes up for all the effort and stress.
