The Election Commission announced dates for the Assembly Elections to Himachal Pradesh today. The date of polling for the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections would be 9 November and the date of counting would be 18 December. The 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly ends on 7 January 2018.
The three-member Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti, addressed a press conference at 4 pm at the Nirvachan Sadan in Delhi where the full poll schedule for the state was released. The model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect. The date for the Gujarat polls is yet to be announced but the CEC has stated that the Gujarat assembly elections will be held before December 18 to facilitate simultaneous counting in both states.

- 136 all women polling stations to be set up for Himachal Pradesh
- There will VVPATs along with EVMs
- ECI to use social media for better election management
- Bulk SMSes & voice messages on phone shall also be in purview of election advertisements
In Himachal Pradesh, chief minister Virbhadra Singh-led Congress party is bracing to face a tough fight from the BJP, especially in the backdrop of Congress losing a series of assembly elections in north India since 2014.
