Eden Hazard scores late winner as Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1

Anfield: Eden Hazard’s scores the winner for Chelsea against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Belgium international’s finish into the far corner with five minutes remaining sealed victory as Chelsea came from behind to end Premier League leaders Liverpool’s perfect start to the season and reach the fourth round.Hazard was introduced as a substitute in the second half and he burst into action by beating Alberto Moreno and smashing home the winner.

The Blues had been the better side in the first half with striker Alvaro Morata somehow striking a shot across the goal line and the Spaniard also nodded a free header over the crossbar. In the second half Liverpool opened the scoreline with  Sturidge’s well-executed hooked finish. It happened just minutes after the England international missed an open net.

Chelsea levelled the contest  through Emerson Palmieri’s close-range finish which needed intervention from the video assistant referee (VAR) to check for offside before being awarded.

Mohamed Salah did not start for Liverpool, he was introduced on the field as a substitute for Fabinho. Mane was replaced by Robert Firmino in the second half. Kante and Hazard were also introduced as substitutes.

Chelsea had the better ball possession but Liverpool had more shots. Though shots on target was equal for both the teams. Liverpool conceded more fouls than  Chelsea.
