The Election Commission today ordered the immediate removal of the Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) and District Magistrate (DM) over Munger incident.

ECI also ordered a probe into the violence that occurred two days ahead of the state assembly elections in the Bihar district.

The inquiry, headed by Mr. Asangba Chuba Ao, Divisional Commissioner, Magadh, has to be completed within next seven days, said the Bihar Chief Electoral Officer in a press release.

After the order Munger DM Rajesh Meena and SP Lipi Singh are removed from respective duty.

New SP and DM to be posted by today.

On October 26, the clash between policemen and mob during the Durga idol immersion which resulted in the death of a 18-year-old boy  resulted in massive outrage among the people.

The agitated-mob on Thursday vandalized SDO and SP’s office in Munger, setting fire on vehicles and demanding justice for the boy.

Traditionally, the immersion of idol takes place three days after Dushera, but due to the elections, the official insisted on immersion of idol on the same day.

The procession took a violent turn with the intervention of policemen which resulted in the clash between them.

At least 29 people were injured by the police attack.

SP of police Lipi Singh then said, “The mob pelted stones and opened fire on police which led to the death of one person and injured 27 people including 20 policemen.”
