Digital rupee to advance the Central Bank Currency: Nirmala Sitharman

The finance minister claimed that the digital rupee is an alert call taken in debate with RBI

Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the discussions on the union budget are still on

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharman on Tuesday stated that the suggested digital rupee, which she had announced in the union budget, is a responsive call that was discussed with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as the government sees an advantage in a central bank driven digital currency.

She also claimed that the discussions over cryptocurrency are going on.

“The consultations are on….anybody interested in this domain is welcome to participate after the consultation process gets duly completed, the (finance) ministry would probably sit and mull over it, which is required because we need the executive to be sure that we are not crossing any legal requirements, post which we will be coming out with what’s our position on it,” she said.
