Cyclone Titli: Trains suspended & Schools closed in Odisha

15 rescue teams have been deployed in Odisha

Cyclone ‘Titli’ has hit the coast of Odisha with wind speeds of over 165km/h. A wind warning has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, along and off  South Odisha and adjoining districts of northern Andhra Pradesh coasts.

“The wind speed will gradually decrease thereafter becoming a gale wind with speed reaching upto 90 km/h”, said a news bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department. This comes after cyclone ‘Titli’  was upgraded to a “very severe cyclonic storm”, in the wee hours of 11 October.

A storm warning has also been issued, and low lying areas of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, Ganjam, Khurda and Puri districts of Odisha are likely to be inundated over the next 6 hours, according to the same bulle.

The Meteorological Department has also suggested “complete suspension of fishing operations”.
