Case against Tejaswi Surya for trespassing into Osmania University

BJP MP TEjaswi Surya adressing students at Osmania Arts College

A case has been registered against BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, for entering Hyderabad’s Osmania University without taking permission from university authorities.

The Osmania University police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the university’s registrar, said Telangana’s DGP, M Mahender Reddy. The BJP MP was visiting Hyderabad to participate in the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. He broke open the barriers at the NCC gate of the campus along with his supporters, to address students at the Arts College building.

The University registrar said, ” There was no permission to conduct the event. Such events are not permitted in the university.” Despite severe backlash, the Osmania University administration issued notifications stating the ban of political activities on the campus, in 2017.  The notice stated that “The university has been established for the purpose of imparting higher education… It is therefore informed to all concerned that activities unrelated to academics will not be permitted on the campus.”
