A youth, who wanted to take a selfie with Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, attacked him with a sharp object at Visakhapatnam airport on Thursday afternoon.

Jagan received a minor cut on his left arm when the youth hit him. Officials said that Jagan allowed the youth near him when he requested to take a selfie. “The youth also asked Jagan if YSRCP will win 160 seats in elections next year. After clicking a selfie he turned around and slashed with a blade that is usually used in cock fights. The youth was immediately taken into custody,” an official said.

However, YSRCP leaders are livid that the youth was allowed to walk into the waiting lounge by the security officials without proper checking. “When you cannot even take in even a nail cutter, how did this youth get into the lounge with that sharp instrument,” asked YSRCP MLA Roja Selvamani. She accused the ruling TDP Government of lapses in providing security to Reddy.

Reddy claimed that the attacker was the staff of a TDP leader, and blamed the ruling government for the brazen attack. It was claimed that the attacker was a waiter at an airport restaurant, but Reddy opposed that and claimed it was an planned attack hatched to injure the leader.
