Security forces have reportedly launched a search operation to track down the assailants

Srinagar: At least two security force personnel were killed in a suspected militant attack on a quick reaction team (QRT) in the HMT area in the outskirts of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, according to police officials.

The area was cordoned off after the attack and a search operation was launched by the security forces to track down the militants.

According to ANI, Kashmir’s Inspector Vijay Kumar General told media persons, “Two jawans were critically injured and reportedly succumbed to injuries. Jaish has active movement here, by evening we will identify the group. Terrorists fled in a car and were armed. Two are probably Pakistani and one local.”

Polices sources told Kashmir News Trust that they witnessed militants opening fire from inside a van. According to the Defence PRO, the two army personnel succumbed to injuries in the medical facility they were taken to.

This comes ahead of the elections of the first-ever District Development Council elections in Jammu and Kashmir slated to begin on Nov. 28, 2020.
