BREAKING NEWS: Iraqi forces take control of Kirkuk oil fields

Artillery belonging to Iraqi army are seen southwest of Kirkuk, Iraq October 17

Iraqi forces completed an operation to take control of all oil fields operated by state-owned North Oil Company in the Kirkuk region on Tuesday.

The clash began when Iraqi forces entered Kirkuk, a city in the north of Iraq that sits about halfway between Mosul and the country’s capital Baghdad.
A senior Kurdish official said thousands of heavily armed fighters had been deployed to defend themselves “at any cost” against the Iraqi operation and called for international intervention.
