BREAKING NEWS: India, Singapore vow to fight international terrorism

New Delhi, November 29: India and Singapore on Wednesday vowed to fight international terrorism along with expanding cooperation with India in the Strait of Malacca and the Andaman Sea. Singapore’s Defence Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen said on Wednesday at a joint press conference of the second Defence Ministers’ Dialogue between India and Singapore.

“We all recognise that the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean are key sea lanes of communication… I think I speak on behalf of both countries, we want to see more participation and activity in both the Strait of Malacca and the Andaman Sea,” Hen said.The Singapore Defence Minister said the regional stability and the international rule of law were essential for trade and commerce to flourish.

Sitharaman said that both the countries also discussed renewing the army agreement, which is due for renewal next year.India and Singapore signed navy to navy agreement during the bilateral defence meeting.

Dr Ng expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s acceptance as keynote speaker for the 2018 Shangri-La Dialogue to articulate India’s vision for a stable Indo-Pacific region.
