In a recent statement by Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat, the state is planning to rename the city of Ahmedabad to Karnavati.
“Firstly, I would like to wish everybody a happy new year. In this year, Ahmedabad will be most likely be renamed to Karnavati, the talks of which have been going on for a couple of years now. We have been thinking about the same and are having a look at it legally and from all angles. We will take active steps for the same and will think about it in the coming days,” said Rupani.

Rupani’s statement comes after Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel earlier told ANI that his government is considering renaming Ahmedabad as ‘Karnavati’ if the saffron party manages to muster support from the people.
In the recent past, the names of various cities and railway stations have been changed, such as Faizabad to Ayodhya and Allahabad to Prayagraj.
The name of Mughal Sarai Railway Station was changed to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay earlier this year.
