Asus takes on the budget market with festive discounts

ASUS India launched the Zenfone Max M1, and the Zenfone Lite L1 at a live event in Delhi on Wednesday. Originally priced at Rs. 8999 and Rs. 6999, but available for special festive prices of Rs. 7499 and Rs. 5999 respectively, the two phones will challenge similar offerings from Honor, Xiaomi, and Lenovo in the budget price bracket.

The Zenfone Max and Zenfone Lite both feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, a 5.45-inch 720p screen, and a 13 Megapixel back camera with portrait mode.

While the Lite version comes with a 3000mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB flash storage, the Max version has a 4000mAh battery, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB flash storage. ASUS claims the Zenfone Max’s battery can last for two days of normal usage. An 8MP front camera with portrait mode, a fingerprint reader, and 2.5D curved glass are exclusive to the Max version, as the Lite misses out on these features.

Both phones come with a dual SIM slot, an SDcard slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for VoLTE across all networks.

In an unprecedented move, both phones will come with a free 100GB of Google Drive storage, normally priced at Rs. 130 per month. The phones will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart during their upcoming Diwali sale, the dates of which have not been confirmed. The phones will be available for a discount during this sale.

ASUS will also provide Flipkart’s ‘Complete Mobile Protection’ plan at a subsidised rate of Rs. 99, as opposed to the regular rate of Rs. 399. The plan provides insurance for broken screens, water damage, and theft with a guaranteed resolution in 10 days.

The phones will face competition from the likes of the Lenovo K9 and A5, which were launched yesterday, and the Honor 7C, the market leader of this segment.
