A not so happy Diwali for AI ground staff.

As many as 12 flights have been delayed due to a group of Air India Air Transport Services Limited (AIATSL) staff going on strike at the Mumbai airport since last night.

According to media reports, around 400 staff members are protesting over non-payment of Diwali bonus.

The ground staff of AIATSL check in passengers, handle their baggage, cargo and also take up duties for foreign carriers on contract basis.
An Air India spokesperson said that due to a sudden industrial situation at Mumbai airport by AIATSL employees, some flights like the Mumbai-Bangkok flight AI 330 got delayed by almost seven hours.

“We are assessing the situation and all efforts are being made to minimise delays or disruption,” he added.
