Srinagar: On Thursday, terrorists attacked military personnel in the HMT area on the outskirts of Srinagar City on the day of the 12th anniversary of the Mumbai terrorist attacks and mere days ahead of the District Development Council (DDC) elections.

The attack comes two days before the first round of the DDC elections, which are set to take place in the Union Territory. The elections will be held in eight stages between November 28 and December 19 in Jammu and Kashmir, and the vote counting will start happening on December 22.

According to ANI, the police Inspector-General of the Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh said it was probable that they were plotting a “big” attack and targeting the DDC elections in the Union territory.
